John the Ripper is an open source offline password cracking tool used on multiple platforms, including Linux, Unix, Mac OS X, and Windows. The Cybrscore Open Source Password Cracking lab teaches students how to use the open source tool, John the Ripper, to crack passwords of various file types on both a Windows and a Linux virtual machine.
